Surprise, Surprise

I should not have been surprised.

I think I kept my cool on the outside when I heard the words, but inside I felt like this shocked koala…

… when Dr. Jacobson told me my MRI shows I do not have an ACL left to speak of, and surgery will be inevitable.

I’d like to tell you that I have handled the news with brass ovaries.  But the truth is, I am in constant flux between optimism that I will recover fully; fear that I’ll never again feel the thrill of snatching a PR; and frustration at my lack of patience, even before it has run thin.  There’s a lot I don’t know about my future right now.  But I do know that when I come out on the other end, I’ll be better, in one way or another.
